We have posted new items on the different modeling forums, and will soon add the same here. They are not ready to order yet, so they are not in the store.

We are working on updates to the website, and will have pictures as soon as they are available.

Admiralty Model Works is proud to announce a partnership with Artworks Florida (www. artworks-florida.com). The project is the restoration of historical Lighthouse Fresnel Lenses. AMW will be responsible for the molding and casting of the lenses which will be placed into the mechanisms to make the Fresnel Lenses, thereby allowing the lighthouses to  illuminate.

This is a major undertaking to restore different Lighthouses around the USA to working condition.

For full historical details please visit the Artworks Florida website.

Thank you,

 Pavel

I have finally had time to do some updates to the website.
The FAQ is up and running, both for the Store and the Model Shop.
The Services has finally got all the text put in, and so the content is updated.
On the down side, we are still having trouble with the USPS web support. We keep getting an error message when we activate the shipping with them, and they cannot understand it is their fault. No government agency likes to be responsible! We can still do shipping Fed Ex or flat rate, so if you have questions, please drop us an e-mail.

It’s the start of a new year and 2009 should see a number of new trends from AMW.For right now, we are working hard to get the site finished and the two announced kits, Worcester and Repulse update set completed on time, end of January to early February, 2009. Thank you all for the patience you have shown, the research into the Repulse set was quite dramatic, we did have a lot of help from modelers and Royal Navy enthusiasts. As you have all noticed there are a lot of new plastic kits coming onto the market, both in 1/700 and 1/350. The announcement of these kits and the subjects has caused us to re-evaluate some of the subjects we are doing. We may also shuffle some of the announced kits around and do them in a different order.  The good news is that a lot of the Resin Manufacturers are talking to each other to prevent duplication of subjects. Not all are willing to do this, but I think there is room for all of us. Once again I urge you to register on the site, so you will get news letters from us. This will allow you to stay current and get items as soon as they are released. Thank you

From this fine kit of USS Spokane I am modeling USS Juneau (CLAA 119) to represent her at the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950. She was the first USN ship present. I am researching whether she was the first US military unit of any kind to operate there. The model is over 95% complete. The main structural changes from the kit are the masts, the radar antennas, and the boats that replaced the aft 20mm batteries. After I broke the kitted foremast trunk, I replaced it with brass rod. The pyramidical stays, painted dark gray here, hold the foremast upright, just like on the actual ship.

Michael Potter's model of USS Juneau (CLAA 119) in 1950-51

Some suggestions for modelers of this kit:

  1. The illustrated parts breakdown is not a sequential assembly guide. For example, you need to place the upper level liferails before you place the ladders between the provided gaps in the liferails. You need to place the ladders before you place things next to the ladders, such as CO2 bottles.
  2. Kind of minor: for the lookout sights, the "arms" point inboard, not outboard.
  3. You have to drill out the hawsepipe for the anchors. I used a hand-turned .033-inch drill bit, starting from the fo'csle. Very easy.
  4. I shaved off the resin wafers with a single-edge razor instead of sanding away the wafer.
  5. The actual ship was a very tight design, and the model kit is very accurate. If you think you have flexibility about where to place a particular part, re-check the illustrated parts breakdown sheets because it is very likely that you are leaving out some other part!

This is the first photos of the Repulse Set Master’s. This is only part of the set, but I did not want people to think it is vapor. I am working on the boats, and will post pictures soon.

Shipping

Once again I have some good news. It looks as if we have solved our module problems. Fed Ex shipping will come on line in the next few days, we are awaiting their activation number. USPS is next, we should be able to have that going soon too. That means you will have the choice of shipping. Please note that right now we have just a flat rate for the Continental USA. International customers will need to e-mail me and pay via Pay Pal for right now. This will change as soon as the USPS (United States Postal Service) module goes online.Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Repulse Update Set

This is progressing well. I will have pictures soon. I just keep adding items as I go through the Tamiya kit, so the set will be quite comprehensive and detailed.

Worcester/ Roanoke

This kit is still on time for release in late January, 2009. It will contain parts to do either of the two in the class, with all the trimmings, Brass Barrels, Photo-Etch and Decals.

I urge those of you who are waiting on items to register on the Admiralty web site. Those of you who are registered will be getting update e-mails, so as soon as an item is available, you will be notified.

Thank you.
